Gewurztraminer Grand Cru MANDELBERG
Riesling Grand Cru Classé ROSACKER
The Mandelberg (Almond Tree Slope) hill shelters the village of Mittelwihr from the cold northerly winds. The southern flank of the hill, facing south-south-east, enjoys optimum exposure to the sun and forms the Grand Cru Mandelberg vineyard. Its soil is limestone-marl, overlying Tertiary-era conglomerate from the edge of the Rhine through.
The vines grow alongside with the almond trees which gave their name to the slope. First cultivated in the Gallo-Roman era, then under the Frankish nobility, the Mandelberg became, like the other vineyards of Mittelwihr, the property of the abbeys of Saint-Dié, Ebersmunster, Munster ... The name of Mandelberg was first used on the bottels of Alsace wine in 1925.
Mandelberg wines have great nobility. They develop a pronounced fruitiness with exquisite finesse, the hallmark of wines from limestone-manesite soils, and age extremely well. Full bodied and exuberant, powerful and seductive, it is the best known Alsace wine.
Fine and complex aromas wine, this long premium Riesling is coming from the calcaire-marl terroir in Hunawihr with the appellation "Grand Cru".
The Rosacker is located in the north of Hunawihr, small village between Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr at an altitude of 260 to 330 meters. The exposure is east-south-east, on the "Muschelkalk" and the "Lettenkohle" limestone and marl soil.
The soils have an heavy structure, aerate by some silice stone of sandstone from Vosges.
Young, the Riesling Alsace Grand Cru Rosacker gives sharp flavour with a spicy characteristic. It turns more round when it is older, with a mineral flavour.
